(H)Ours Count is an organization created to provide support for at risk students who need assistance in the educational system. The founders noticed that many students were dropping out of school due to inadequate support and lack of incentives for academic success. They created a unique after-school program that not only provides academic support but also pays students for their participation. The organization’s mission is to prepare students for success in all aspects of their lives, including physical, academic, and social/emotional wellness. The program focuses on teaching life skills, career development, workplace readiness, money management, and healthy lifestyle development. The organization seeks to build strong bodies, minds, and spirits, helping students to achieve their full potential. (H)Ours Count is beginning operations at Weeki Wachee High School and the organization is striving to bring the program to all Hernando County school sites. Those who are interested in supporting the program can donate, become a volunteer, or become a sponsor.

Program Structure

Our innovative (H)ours Count program breaks the typical afterschool regimen down into three distinct, focused hours:

The First Hour

Physical Fitness

The first hour is dedicated to promoting health and wellness through structured exercise and games. This includes strength and cardio training and flexibility exercises.

The Second Hour

Academic Assistance

The second hour focuses on providing academic support. This ranges from homework help to developing effective test-taking strategies.

The Final Hour

Life Skills

The final hour is a flexible time slot that can feature a variety of activities. Guest speakers, soft skills training, money management education, nutrition guidance, and social and business etiquette lessons are among the offerings.
